A system can be useful for administration and still weak for creative research.
15 responses. Almost exclusively R1 institutions. Average institution size approximately 40,000 students. Respondents include professors, deans, associate deans, chairs/heads, and academic professionals.
Evidence
Preliminary qualitative responses say systems may be useful for some administrative functions while remaining weak for representing creative research. Faculty access and administrator access can differ substantially. Some institutions abandon centralized analytics because disciplinary differences make standardization difficult. Respondents want better ways to use existing systems.
Interpretation
The constructive task is not only to replace systems. It is to learn which existing uses are worth keeping, and where those uses hide creative and interdisciplinary work.
Limitations
Preliminary qualitative reports from a small respondent set. They do not identify which specific campuses abandoned which systems.
