A definition that can be used
The committee is using six conditions to tell a specialization from a cluster of electives. The shared spine, the two degree tracks, and program-wide competencies stay outside that definition.
Why this matters for students. A student who is still searching needs room to experiment. A student who has found a direction needs a route they can see, including after a change of mind.

Game design and artificial intelligence
These are the pilot pathways. The courses, facilities, and expertise are real. The mechanism for going further is not yet supplied for a stated group of students on both tracks.
Why this matters for students. Advanced work in both areas is easier to reach from the Computing track. The other track needs a stated way in, or the pathway is a cluster with a closed door.

What reaches Capstone
IMDM390 is required for the degree and is not required to begin IMDM490. On the current calendar, Studio II can share the last semester with Capstone II and the showcase. The committee has not chosen a repair.
Why this matters for students. Order, handoff, and timing are different problems. A prerequisite change would place the studio earlier. It would not, by itself, carry an individual project forward.

Gateway frequency
IMDM227 is the first candidate for a regular fall and spring offering. IMDM290 is the second candidate, to be judged after 227 is watched, and only if it becomes the next bottleneck. Capacity, staffing, and upper-level electives are part of the same question.
Why this matters for students. Transfer students, internal transfers, and anyone who misses a spring can lose a year at the front of the sequence. That delay reaches the courses after the gateway.
